Outdoor Education
Central Coast Sports College runs a unique Outdoor Education program that runs from Kindergarten through to Year 12. Hiking, camping and recreational activities provide a great environment to develop intrapersonal and interpersonal skills such as courage, resilience, perseverance, independence, leadership, communication, teamwork and navigation skills as well as increased environmental awareness. Studies have also shown that a relationship with nature is beneficial to our wellbeing. Connecting with nature can generate positive emotions, such as calmness, joy, and creativity and can facilitate concentration.
At CCSC, all grades participate in a day hike each term. The Central Coast is ideally positioned with access to world class tracks including the Great North Walk and the Blue Mountains. Student athletes will complete the section of Great North Walk between Kariong and Sydney in addition to trails in the Blue Mountains, Royal and Snowy Mountains National parks during their time at CCSC.
Overnight camps are introduced from Year 5 which typically include hiking and recreational activities like kayaking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, high ropes, abseiling, orienteering, aquaparks and teamwork challenges. From Year 9 the camps are self sufficient, where student athletes carry their own gear for an overnight camp, allowing us to venture into more remote areas.
