After identifying a need to offer our students alternate pathways during their senior years, in 2016 CCSC launched their first VET course; Certificate II in Sport and Recreation. The course proved a huge success with all 23 participants successfully achieving their full qualification, completing 35 hours industry work experience and gaining their first aid certificate.
One senior student in particular excelled and relished the opportunity to study an industry recognised course on our campus. Jakeb Brownlow was nominated for the “VET in Schools Student of the Year”.
Jakeb has aspirations to pursue a future in the world of sport so he committed fully to this course. Last night he was successfully crowned VET in Schools Student of the Year by the Central Coast apprenticeship and trainee advisory committee. This is an outstanding achievement for him personally and the college in their maiden year of delivering VET courses.
This year Jakeb has continued to further enhance his resume by undertaking a voluntary coaching position at the college plus he has gained employment as a coach for a local Sports Camp. He will complete his HSC courses this year that also includes Certificate II in Sports Coaching. Jakeb will depart CCSC in term 4 with a broad range of qualifications that we are confident will help him gain full-time employment in the world of sport.

If only ALL students at CCSC could take a leaf out of Jakebs book. In last 2.5yrs that I have been a parent at this college I am yet to cross paths with a more polite, engaging or charismatic student as Jakeb. He has always shown a positive attitude and has grown into such a wonderful young man. I wish him all the best in his endeavours both off the field and on. You’re a great kid Jakey congratulations!
