Centennial Park, Sydney was the venue for the CDSSA high college cross country this year.
An early start, leaving college at 6:45am on a cold morning.
We walked the 2km course which took us around the beautiful parklands, past the equestrian centre, football fields and duck ponds. The sun was shining but the wind was chilly.
The first race began with our senior students. Harry Wills led from the gun and took the group of runners through the 8km course. Harry finished the race in first place, over a minute in front of the second place runner, Rommy Kalassina, who completed the course despite having been unwell.
The U17 runners, Jock Lummis, Zac Matthews and Breelyn Bessant again finished strong in 3rd, 2nd and 10th place.
We then turned to our U12 runners and again we were strong over the 3km race. Oliver Ham finished again in first place with Tindo Galimard 5th and Emily Jeffree taking 3rd spot for the girls.
The U13’s saw Oliver MacNair finish in 3rd place with another strong run.
CCSC took first and second place in the U14’s race with Jakob Ham and Connor Gallen dominating the field. Oscar Finch knocked over two minutes off his 4km personal best.
We again came away with a win in the U15 boys with Cody Peluso winning the race in fine form, again strides ahead of 2nd place.
To finish the day with the U16’s Matt Titherington put in a great effort to finish 4th and Cheyenne Dearie completing her 4km race winning also.
I could not have been prouder of all competitors. Their attitude, behaviour and support was exemplary and made for a wonderful sports event.
We have 13 students qualified for the next round of the cross country which takes place on Monday 5th June.
A huge congratulations to all competitors and gook luck to all of the CCSC students who are running next week.
