It has been a very eventful year at CCSC, after so many competitions, camps, college events and of course the continuing evolution of the football program. As the college year is nearing its end, we all start to reflect on the successes we have had on and off the park. Although there are always mistakes made or setbacks in any endeavour, we all continue to learn and move forward.
There are so many aspects of my working day that always remind me why I want to be at CCSC. The coaching staff apply themselves to the best of their ability to get all our kids focused, motivated and most importantly learning to improve their skills to further their development. Seeing the tennis kids rush to their buses when heading to tennis training shows their drive to make sure they don’t miss a session. The football kids are usually streaming towards their coaches asking, “What are we working on today?”, “Do we need boots?” or “Are we using the goals?” To me, these questions show they’re keen to learn.
This week in particular, there were three moments that really registered with me as reminders of why I enjoy being a football coach and why I want to see these kids succeed at whatever their future holds.
Taking a group of 9-10 year olds to Umina Beach for a complete change of scenery and fun reminds us that kids just want to have fun. We played some games and they just couldn’t stop playing …
Watching Trent Buhagiar playing for the Central Coast Mariners against Perth, proving that hard work along with the desire to succeed will lead you to your goals no matter how high you have set them.
Reading blogs and articles about various aspects of sport and life in general is a great starter for me on most mornings and this short blog by Terry Condon was a good kick start. Coaches of all levels help to shape players of all sports in many ways but each player determines their own future.
