Never fear parents, our Kinder Incredibles are on the case!! This term, we are investigating the driving question “How do we stay safe in our world?” And the Kinders are aiming to create a video which teaches other students all about safety.
We started off the project with a hazard hunt around our college site – and wow, didn’t they just love pointing out all the things that could potentially be dangerous to them! They’ve also impressed me with their ongoing enthusiasm, as I often find them yelling out and pointing “HAZARD Mel, HAZARD” at the most random times!
We then moved on to the topic of road safety. Our trips on and off site give us the opportunity to constantly talk about road safety, such as strategies to stay safe and risk-taking. We were also lucky enough to have Gavin (bus guru) invite us to the CCSC bus depot for a special behind-the-scenes tour of our buses. He taught us lots of things, including how to stay safe in and around buses. Kinder even got the chance to sit in the driver’s seat and experience first hand what drivers see and hear.
Our next topic started with Daniel Morcombe Day. Thanks to everyone who supported this day and wore red, it was excellent to see and hear the students telling Daniel’s story and learning from it. The Kinders loved having Todd in the classroom to talk about safe people in their lives. Kinder will also be investigating the people and in our community who help to keep us safe, such as doctors, ambulance people, police and fire brigade members.
If there is anybody in our CCSC community who is part of a profession that helps to keep us safe and you have some ideas for our project or would like to talk to the Kinders, please email me: melissa.trew@ccsc.nsw.edu.au to discuss.
We look forward to learning lots more over the remainder of the term. And thank goodness I have our Kinder Safety Inspectors around me to save the day! Thanks Kinders, keep up the fabulous work.
