There is a huge emphasis at CCSC on students being the best they can be in all aspects of life.
With that in mind I have taken on a few personal goals over recent months. It occurred to me during the last summer holidays that while I was asking for the best of my students in everything they do, I personally was not giving 100 per cent to my own life endeavours.
One of the goals I set was to go back to playing local grade football. Training again to be the best footballer I could be after quite a few years off has proven to be rewarding and at times very frustrating.
One of the things I have most enjoyed has been playing against some of the senior boys who are making it into grade football teams on the coast. All of the boys I have played against have shown great skill and leadership within the teams they play for. It is a big step moving from teenage football to men’s football and from what I have seen IFS students are doing it with ease.
It has been great winning the bragging rights against students this season (once or twice) . It was very hard watching one of our senior students, Ewan Peek, (who is in a Biology class I teach), individually tear my team apart 8-1 on the weekend. Ewan and his team (repeatedly) taught me not to dive in when playing centre back!
