In today’s blog I’d like to talk about the U-14/15 students who are being challenged in decision-making as individuals, as team players and as IFS students.
Very big decisions for young players to make! For some, those decisions will have a big influence on their further development as players and/or students. As a result of some of those decisions, their pathways could lead towards trying to be the best player they can be or trying to become that person who wants that particular job they are studying for.
Which direction are you heading towards? Where are you going to play your tennis/football? Which environment/club do you choose to be in or play for? How do you think you will become the best tennis/football player and/or student?
All very interesting decisions for a young boy or girl to make and they will need a lot of help and support from their parents to make the right decision.
We (Hesterine and I) have started trial games for our group, playing against some interesting opponents to determine what levels and which players will represent IFS in the coming season. Meeting Kincumber U-15s was a challenge in a different environment – an older, physically stronger and quicker team than most of our boys. Rather than matching them physically, this was a test to see whether they were capable of adjusting to the environment and using technical skills to outplay the opposition. It’s where decision-making becomes a very influential tool in being the better player/team. We struggled a bit in the first 15-20 minutes, but then managed to do very well for our first game against one to two year older opponents. We lost the game only 1-0 and were technically capable of playing good football, something Hesterine and I were pleased to see, that we are heading in the right direction towards their further development.
More games will follow and I’m sure we will read more about it in newsletters and blogs.
Decision-making is a big part of our lives and will always be part of the game of football. It will lead you, as an individual, through all the challenges you face in life, no matter how big or small. I hope everyone will manage to make the right decisions whenever they are challenged, and have enough support around them to help in any way to make the right decision.
Congratulations to all the players signed up to play for the college. We will be hearing more of you in the coming season.
