We are rapidly approaching the time of studying for HSC exams. It is important that you optimise your time and effort by working efficiently and targeting your strengths and weaknesses. The first step in the right direction is to commit to a study regimen.
Prepare to study
- YOU must decide to study. Overcoming procrastination (in other words thinking “I’ll do it tomorrow”, “I have other important things to do today”) is the first step to success.
- Make a schedule. Ideally you should study a combination of different subjects every day. Write down a timetable and hang it on the wall. Search the net for a study schedule form and use it to plan your days of the week.
- Commit to your schedule. You must study as per your schedule with no exceptions. Regard this as your academic training session. What happens to top soccer players when they miss a training session?
- Set your sessions. For most students, a subject session of about 30 to 40 minutes of study works best, followed by 15 minutes of physical activity. Experiment with different length sessions and find out what works for you.
So you have decided to put in the effort. In my next blogs we’ll explore what to study and how to do it, in order to give yourself the best chance of reaching you academic potential.
On the same subject, a quote from the great inventor, Thomas A Edison, who was asked to what he attributed the incredible ideas output he had produced over the years:
‘Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.’
