R & R
In contemplating the end of Term 1, I wondered how everyone could make the best use of their holiday break. My answer; rest and relaxation – a critical and integral part of any training regime and athletic success, and for that matter, any success.
If consistent and sustained hard work is not interspersed with rest, that effort will be less efficient and effective.
Your mind and body need periodic breaks from training in order to keep you in good shape both physically and mentally. A training regime of 52 weeks per year where you push yourself obsessively will eventually lead to physical breakdown, diminished performance and loss of motivation. Athletes who don’t pay attention to their physical energy levels and work load will soon find themselves vulnerable to overuse injuries and/or suffering from chronic physical problems.
Similarly, periodic breaks allow the mind to recover; time for refuelling your motivation and refilling your mental gas tank so that you remain interested and excited. If you’re looking forward to getting back to training and are interested and excited about it, your training will be of a much higher quality than if you’re tired, bored and disinterested.
By making rest, at appropriate times, part of your training, you’re not being lazy or not working hard enough. You are taking the right steps in your quest to make your athletic dream into a reality.

Does having a rest apply to the staff at IFS? Good luck with the college holiday clinics and thank you to all the staff for making the college the environment that it is for the children. Looking forward to next term. Tracy williams

I am spending my time researching ways to become a better leader. Here is one video I have found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XJ57kZ61DA8#! Can be transferred into personal development and teams.
Have a great break!

That essential R and R must extend to the teachers and coaches as well – otherwise they’ll be burnt out and not as effective when fronting up for the next Term. Their need to switch off completely and be able to enjoy the breaks is just as important and essential as it is for the students.
