Sport and the media has been the focus for this week with Years 7 and 8. They have been busy analysing news in the media and discovering what forms it takes and how effective each is in delivering their news articles. Most of students have embraced this well and their time management has show vast improvements on the last two weeks. I have taken much time to work with individual teams and on their work and find that much of the work completed has only touched the surface of what possible answers there could be. We have been working together to create more in-depth knowledge and understanding of the concepts surrounding the media. I have really enjoyed working with the small groups and pulling together to extend their capabilities.
One of the challenges has been much of the work needed internet searches and although the students had limited access to this they have cooperated with other classes to share the resources and time on the technology that was available.
Hot question of the week has been “when will our ipads be here?” to say the students are excited is an understatement. I will be attending a course tonight that will assist me with using the ipad as a teaching tool. We have many apps available to us that will take teaching and learning to a whole new level.
Hopefully with the distribution of the ipads starting this week we shall see more efficiency in producing their work. I am looking forward to the creative ways in which they will be submitting their final assessment task that focuses on answering the question – Is there a relationship to sport and media?
