So we are well under way now at IFS and after a successful team building week, the pupils are now getting more familiar with the ethos of Project Based Learning, the staff, teaching environment and of course each other.
This week we have welcomed some great footballing role models and parents to our open day in which pupils realized that they were representing the college and their families and all behaved impeccably on the day.
This week from a teaching perspective I have set my year 10 class a project titled, ‘What makes you…..you?’ This project will enable pupils to work in groups and individually to produce an assessment poster that will illustrate to staff and their peers where they come from, who are their role models, what characteristics they fell they possess and also gives them opportunity to set personal goals for their time with IFS. The deadline for this project is Friday 8th February, pupils are going to present to the class some insights they have chosen to share with the group. This initial task will also serve as an assessment tool for staff to see how the pupils actually work individually and collectively, whilst also providing familiarization with the ‘student centered’ approach at the college that give pupils responsibility and ownership of the work they produce.
I am looking forward to getting into a daily college routine within the coming weeks and letting pupils express themselves through the work they produce. On a final note I would like to thank all who have helped IFS get to this stage, pupils are motivated to learn in the classroom and on the pitch. We have created a college that I’m confident will revolutionize the whole education approach in Australia within the next few years.
