Thinking back, it was probably more than 2 years ago that one of those severe Central Coast electrical storms wiped out my beloved old Macintosh computer. So, off I went to the local Apple store in Tuggerah and bought a fabulous new iMac.
There was also 12 months training included with my purchase, so i checked out what weekly classes were on offer and enrolled in most of them.
The guy who ran the classes was very good and after a couple of months I’d gotten used to his accent and the relatively fast paced instruction.
After some time he started using football examples in the practical class exercises. A favourite of his was where he and Ronaldo were in the same team playing in a game, and he had 4 assists and 2 goals to his name. Ronaldo had none. I think he fancied himself as a bit of a comedian.
Anyway, I wasn’t sure where this sudden enthusiasm for the game was coming from. Was it because my Mum, who also took some classes, divulged some of my football history, or because he was excited about the research he was doing into football high colleges in Europe?
Either way, Paul, (the instructor) and I would sometimes chat about football after the classes. He then told me of his vision; a football high college and can honestly say, that in my 25 or more years in football, I had never heard of anything as exciting. I still haven’t.
Assuming he would want staff of the highest calibre, I told him he wouldn’t find too many better than Joey Peters, and definitely none more passionate. There were some reasons why I wasn’t allowed to mention too much to Joey at the time, but I called her anyway and said “hey, I can’t really say anything but you have to get on board with this really exciting venture”…..
