As we have played our 1st and 2nd rounds in the CIS (Combined Independent Schools) Cup, I can let you know that both games were won by our CCSC college team. The players have been fantastic in both matches against Hunter Valley Grammar School and Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College.
Our kids played a home game against Hunter Valley Grammar School and they were ready to start their own journey in this tournament. The game started with a few kids watching on the sides of ‘The Oval’ and after 20 minutes a lot of college kids were cheering their college team on which lifted the team massively. It took 26 minutes to score their first goal and when the referee whistled for half-time the score was 3-1 to CCSC.
Reuben Awaritefe, Liam Burton, Zac Jokinen and Jacob Rizzeri were all involved in setting up goals or finishing them and they were also the players who needed a lot of chances to score their first goal. Great team work in creativity in and around the 18-yard box.
All the boy’s efforts are commendable and after a rest at half-time and a team talk around the game we tweaked the 2nd half, according to tactics, and within 15 minutes the score was 8-1, with the end result 8-2. Keepers Josh Byrnes and Ethan Giles both made their debut in the high college team and both did a good job in their first taste of a Perfomance Phase competition.
Our next round will be against Pacific Hills Christian School in Dural on May 11 and we are preparing the boys for a tough game.
The boys have started their journey at our college grounds at Kariong and we hope for them it will end with a big bang in the Grand Final.
We will keep you updated regarding the next game.
