Those of you who know me know I have three adult children. My two youngest still live at home with me and like most other families, they drive me nuts on a regular basis. Actually truth be told, all three of them drive me nuts.
The time has come where I must farewell my second child as she embarks on a wonderful adventure of her own. On Saturday she leaves for New Zealand with a friend to work the ski season.
If this was anyone else’s child I would be over the moon excited for them, knowing what an extraordinary time they will have. For me though, because it is my baby, I am inclined to worry and wish that the world will be kind to her as she sets out on her own.
I know I am not the first parent to farewell a child on an overseas trip and I am sure I will not be the last. I know my little Whitney will be okay; she is a smart, strong and determined young woman. My advice to Whitney as she begins this next chapter of her life is to be smart, be safe and be good and if you can’t be good, then be good at it. Safe travels Whitney-woo, I love you and will miss you.
