Over the next few weeks you’ll see my face around the college, in the bright green shirt, assisting the coaches. My name is Jess and I’m currently in my third year of a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Newcastle. As an exercise scientist I specialise in the design, implementation and evaluation of exercise and physical activity for healthy populations. This allows me to assist in the prevention of chronic disease, health promotion and enhance sport performance. With this I am able to work in hospitals, community health units, workplaces, gymnasiums and in education.
As part of my course I need to partake in 100 hours of placement. I am fortunate enough to be able to complete these hours at the Central Coast Sports College. This gives me the opportunity to gain experience with their many talented staff and players.
For the time I am with the college I will be mainly assisting the strength and conditioning coach and helping out where I can with the other coaches. This will include start of term fitness testing, researching and implementing exercise programs for the players, data input, video tagging of the games and sports official at some home games.
I am here to help and to learn as much as I can, so if you see me don’t be afraid to say hi and have a chat.
