Hi to everyone reading this blog. My name is Brendan Ayton and this is my first year teaching at CCSC and first ever blog entry. I’m currently working as one of the Stage 4 and Stage 5 mathematics teachers.
Before starting my mathematics/teaching degree I worked for three years as a roofer/installer of solar panels because I believe solar power is the best efficient energy, visit this website if you want solar panels on your home. This job gave me the opportunity to travel around rural NSW and visit many unique and beautiful places. After three years, I decided to get stuck into my studies as I had always planned. I spent my first year of university studying physiotherapy and tutoring HSC students on the side. This is where I realised my passion was not in physiotherapy but was in helping students learn and achieve the best outcome they could. The following year I changed degrees and started my first year towards becoming a mathematics teacher.
I completed my degree at The University of Newcastle (Callaghan campus) mid-way through last year and was lucky enough to gain some temporary work at a couple of Central Coast colleges in term 4.
So far I’m loving everything about CCSC. I was drawn to this college because of my passion for sport and teaching. As a teenager, I played every sport under the sun including rugby league, football, basketball, tennis, oz-tag, golf, surfing, inline-hockey and ice-hockey. My main sports were inline-hockey and ice-hockey where I represented at both national and world level. I managed to do all this while achieving high academic results at college. I think this experience of growing up relates closely to all the students at CCSC. I want to use this experience to help students understand that you can achieve high outcomes in academics while still playing football/tennis at the highest level.
Looking forward to my journey at CCSC.
