For the 36th time, the annual FFA National Futsal Championships were run and won in January. This prestigious event is one of the biggest on the futsal calendar with the best of youth futsal from Australia on display.
With futsal in New South Wales being arguably the strongest of any state in Australia, just being selected to trial for any of the NSW sides is a huge achievement in itself.
Last year, we were celebrating Sara Piriz who was the first IFS Futsal Club player selected to play in the tournament and to also go on to win with the 14 Girls NSW Metro side.
This year IFS Futsal Club had the honour of being the home of seven players selected to represent NSW at the tournament.
All of the players returned to the Futsal State League sides buzzing with excitement and stories of their experiences.
As expected, the tournament was extremely tough, with our most notable achievements coming from Bayley Lowe, who made it through to the quarter finals in the 14 Boys with the FNSW Metro Lightning side, going down 4-2 to QLD Metro and Alyssa Togo-Paragalli playing in the FNSW Country North, who made it all the way through to the 15 Girls grand final, unfortunately going down 3 goals to nil to the rampant FNSW Metro Lightning side.
The IFS Futsal Club members competing were:
- Maddison Van Dijk – FNSW Metro Lightning 13 Girls
- Bayley Lowe – FNSW Metro Lightning 14 Boys
- Santino Swanson Manuel – FNSW Country 16 Boys
