I thought the best way to start my career in the CCSC Blog sphere is to introduce myself. I did toss up the idea of starting off with a controversial topic to generate some discussion but thought I better wait until my seat warms up. I’m Tim Walsh and I have joined CCSC as a Stage 3 teacher. For the past four years I have worked in the public college system. My life before teaching was quite unique and was an invaluable experience for, at the time, an 18-year-old who hadn’t been overseas.
After finishing high college, I began a career as a golf caddy for a young rookie by the name of Nikki Garrett. I had grown up living and breathing golf and following Nikki’s rise from being an amateur to turning pro. I worked after college and weekends in the golf shop which led to the opportunity to caddy for Nikki in the NSW Open in which she finished second and shot her career best round of 8 under. That led to her inviting me to caddy at her first professional tour sanctioned tournament, the ANZ Masters. It was a big deal for her, a rookie playing against an international field of the world’s best female golfers. Nikki finished 18th which then led me to beg her to take me to Europe for her first season on the Ladies European tour. Fast forward four years on tour, two tournament wins, Rookie of the Year, twelve top 10’s, 27 countries and coming home to find that Adam Kwasnik had convinced my parents to let him rent my room at their house. I had to stay in the spare room until he finally found a girlfriend and moved out but that’s another story for another time.
After my time as a caddy I got stuck into university and out popped a teacher. Looking back, it was something that I could never have planned and if it wasn’t for my experiences I would never have ended up where I am today.
My first week and a half at CCSC has been a great experience. The unique environment on offer here is something that I had never thought was available and the opportunity to join the CCSC family is something that I am very grateful for.
I’m looking forward to my next blog and might even have something to spark some debate.
