This Friday, October 28, CCSC will be participating in the ‘Day for Daniel’; a national action day to raise awareness about child safety and protection. The theme of this year’s day, is Wear Red and Educate.
We are asking that all students and teachers wear red on this day in support of this very important cause.
Over the course of the day, all CCSC students will be participating in safety and protection workshops, appropriate for their age group, that will promote awareness about child safety and protection. We will also be aiming to educate children regarding their personal safety and empower them to Recognise, React and Report.
RECOGNISE encourages students to be aware of their surroundings and to recognise body clues in situations where they don’t feel safe. This includes being aware of where they are and who is around them including adults and other children. This doesn’t just mean ‘stranger danger’ anymore either.
Body clues are our bodies way of telling us how we are feeling, for example when something might be wrong. These could include, shaky knees, nausea, rapid heart rate, sweaty palms, and many more physical sensations or changes when you are feeling nervous. When you are angry, you may feel your face getting hot or your muscles tightening. We all feel emotions in our body differently.
REACT helps students to consider choices that may keep them safe or help make them safe again as quickly as possible.
REPORT encourages students to report unsafe incidents to an adult. Children need to make sure they are aware of who is in their ‘Trust Network’. They should be able to identify at least five people who they feel they can talk to or feel safe with and key emergency services that will also be able to help them.
It’s extremely important for all children to understand these three key actions to keep themselves safe and empowered within the community.
The message that is being promoted from ‘Day for Daniel’ is important for all our students at CCSC, young and old. I hope we can all get behind this and promote awareness for safety of our college community! Looking forward to seeing everybody in their red clothing on Friday!
