My morning training squad consists of Under 11’s players who were given the opportunity to play in the Central Coast Football 11A competition. Although not everyone in my current training squad played in the competition, we were able to use the opportunity to focus on week-to-week tasks to improve some game related situations. This really helped the players understand the purpose of each session.
Parents and players were able to see their continued development every week while enjoying the atmosphere of park football. We were able to compete against some very good teams during the season, including our college’s other U11 team which is coached by Patrick Zwaanswijk. The friendly rivalry in both games that we played against them during the season created a great event for both the parents and coaches. These matches in particular were an excellent experience for everyone and Patrick’s boys, who are really U10s, were fantastic throughout the competition.
By the end of the season our team had been consistently playing good football and marched into the top pool of the competition where a round robin final series was contested. We managed to win 2 and lose 1 to secure a final game against Terrigal 11A-1 who had been one of the strongest and most consistent teams in the competition. The final match was on a glorious Saturday afternoon at Pluim Park in Lisarow where they played an excellent game. Our boys played their usual creative football but we couldn’t break down the disciplined Terrigal defence enough times to finish with a win, losing 3-2.
My players behaved maturely and their parents were great, showing calm and positive sideline support during the competition. Well done to everyone who made this season such an enjoyable one.
