Entering a public speaking competition is one way in which students who benefit from extension can gain valuable experiences for life. Learning how to speak publicly is important in equipping students with the confidence to speak in front of any audience throughout their lives.
Last month, two Stage 4 students, Oscar Finch and Mihajlo Vukovik represented our college at the NSW Legacy Junior Public Speaking Competition at Lake Munmorah High. Oscar (Year 7) spoke eloquently about the effects of sugar in our diets. Mihajlo (Year 8) spoke about the value of working hard for your goals; using football as an example.
The standard in this competition was very high this year. However, both boys enthusiastically presented their speeches in the impromptu section. They both presented well-structured and interesting speeches.
Although Oscar and Mihajlo did not move onto the next round, I was very proud of their efforts and I know that they will continue to develop their speaking skills throughout the coming years.
There is also a social aspect of this competition and it was great to see our boys talking to and supporting students from other colleges.
Congratulations to Oscar and Mihajlo on your outstanding effort and sportsmanship!
