Rio 2016 holds a special place in my heart. My cousin Dario, who lives in Torino Italy, is part of the Italian Olympic team. He is a “maestro” of the Italian fencing team which has performed brilliantly, winning one gold and three silver medals. My cousin started fencing at the age of nine, when his passion for that sport was ignited which has led to a successful ongoing career in a sport he loves. During my many visits to Italy I have seen his “palaestra” grow from humble beginnings, where my aunties cleaned and my cousin worked tirelessly to build a business with strong sporting foundations and a solid reputation. The honour of being selected to coach, mentor and support athletes at an Olympic level and capacity was a dream achieved and one that will continue for many years to come. Our family is extremely proud of Dario!
