Nestled in a small bay on the Hawkesbury river, around the corner from Patonga, lies Broken Bay Sport and Recreation Centre. The only way into the centre is via ferry and mobile reception is very limited so we were not sure how well this camp would go over five days of isolation.
As it turned out, the weather was perfect for all five days and all of the planned events put together by the camp staff were professional and entertaining for all the kids and minders. In between events, including meal times, the kids had free time. Their free time offered a chance to investigate beach volleyball, the indoor sports facility, football field (of course), a large outdoor chess game and a chance to just run around being kids. The amount of energy they burned during our stay could have run a small town – and yet no major incidents!
The food at most camps is usually fairly average but we were impressed with the quality we were spoiled with at mealtimes.
I managed to find my own tree stump that I stood on every evening to call home because it was one of the few locations at camp where I could get reception. Walking out in the dark hearing wallabies jumping away can be a bit scary!
I am sure my fellow staff members who were with me will share more great photos with you but please enjoy the link below to see a glimpse of what the kids got up to at camp…
