Fact: Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy, active life. That’s about one in nine people on earth. (https://www.wfp.org/hunger/stats) However, the students at CCSC are lucky enough to have lunch provided for them everyday, as well as breakfast options. I am also lucky to join the students for lunch each day. As grateful as I am that I am provided with a meal, it’s disappointing to see the attitude of so many of our students. As I sit and eat, I watch the flippancy with which food is wasted. It absolutely astounds me how many students are willing to throw out full plates and bowls of food. The meals that are served have often been trialled previously so I am dumbfounded how, after having sampled a particular meal earlier in the term, a student would be willing to take a full plate again and put it straight in the bin. I would suggest that if students are unsure of whether or not they will like a meal, they ask Ash, Scott or Jodi (who work tirelessly) for a small amount to try before committing to taking a whole plate. If they don’t like it, that’s fine, but at least a whole plate of food hasn’t gone to waste. There are many different options available including the salad bar and sandwiches which can be made. Please support me in encouraging your child to try small amounts of new food if they are unsure instead of wasting food unnecessarily.
