Friday 11th March was a momentous day for CCSC. A record six students shaved to help find a cure for leukaemia and other blood related cancers. To date we have raised $5,739, which is well above our target of $5,000. I am so proud of our students and of our college for supporting this worthwhile event. It is appropriate that we now hear our shavers’ stories of their exciting day. First our team captain Sarah, will tell you her story:
Sarah Davies (Year 11)
When I first started telling people that I was going to do the World’s Greatest Shave, many people tried to convince me not to do it. They thought I would look silly and thought I should be afraid but I wasn’t backing out. When all of my hair was in my hands instead of on my head, it was these people who first complimented me and told me how well they thought my new look actually suited me.
I have currently raised over $2700. The team and myself will continue to raise money for The World’s Greatest Shave for the next few months. The World’s Greatest Shave has been such a great experience and has helped me to see some of my strengths. If I ever shave my head again it will never have the same affect on me. Today I am very proud of what I have done and hope that the money I have raised will help many people who are suffering with blood cancer and help to find a reliable cure.
Aiden Trenbirth (Year 7)
I decided to participate in the World’s Greatest Shave because I wanted to help people who are less fortunate than me. I was really excited to raise donations for such a good cause. On the day of the shave I felt both excited and nervous and when I sat in the chair moments before it happened I felt even more nervous, but once Bronte started shaving my hair and everyone in the crowd started cheering I felt more relaxed and my nervous feelings disappeared. When I walked into the bathroom I looked in the mirror and I was really shocked and proud of what I had just achieved.
Ben Waller (Year 7)
On the day of the shave I was so nervous I just wanted to get it over with. When it was training time, the six of us helped set up. Every second as the time got closer and a big crowd gathered, I was becoming more and more scared but excited at the same time. First Aidan’s hair disappeared, then Jye’s, then mine! All my friends rushed over and started feeling my new spiky head. I loved that day.
Jye Elliot (Year 7)
Doing the World’s Greatest Shave was really scary for me because the whole college was watching and also some parents. I knew I was doing something for a great cause though and I had raised $560 which is quite a lot! When my head was getting shaved I was very happy with myself and I will definitely help this cause in the future.
Ewan Butler (Year 6)
I really enjoyed the shave. I was a little nervous but it was so much fun! I’m really happy that I’ve done this and I will definitely be doing it again. I would like to encourage others to do the shave. Thanks to everyone who donated to me and our team!
Zak Johnson (Year 11)
I made a last minute decision on the morning of the shave to join the team. I shaved in honour of my Nan and I’m very glad I did. The day itself was exciting and I am impressed with the amount of money we have raised. The day itself was very exciting and I was really happy that my family supported me by coming and watching me lose my hair.
Congratulations Sarah for leading the team and raising money for such a great cause. We are so proud of you!
