Being a ‘Sports’ college, we can proudly say “we know a LOT about sport”. Indeed I can, with conviction, say we have some ‘sports’ fanatics here at CCSC. With this in mind, Stage 5 have been looking at sport as a link between Australia and other countries in the world.
“Sport has a crucial role to play in the efforts of the United Nations to improve the lives of people around the world. Sport builds bridges between individuals and across communities, providing a fertile ground for sowing the seeds of development and peace.”
-Wilfried Lemke, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace
With this in mind, students have been discussing the deeper impact which sport can have globally. Through investigation into the United Nations effort to utilise sport as a vehicle for change and to encourage peace in the world, our students have had their eyes opened to the reality that sport is a powerful tool.
At times sport may be the only positive in a negative environment. Whilst some cities are being destroyed by bombs and civil war, there are touching moments to be found when children are playing a sport that they love. Today we began to collate images, creating our own exhibition of photographs which we believe capture the power of sports’ values. Hope you enjoy the examples from our exhibition.
