A warm welcome to all our new families and those returning.
I would like to pass on what it’s like on a normal day in the life of an IFS café staff member.
Starting at 8am the café opens for a complimentary buffet breakfast for our students and families. This includes:
- Assorted cereals
- Bread or toast with spreads
We also offer, at a cost:
- Bacon and eggs
- Espresso coffee, Chia, hot chocolate and tea
- East Coast Juices
9am the café ceases breakfast service.
The café chefs then have three hours to prepare lunch for approximately 410 students and staff. This includes:
- Preparation of the hot meal of the day (examples below)
- Filling of the salad bar with fresh vegetables and assorted salads
- Cutting of approximately 30kgs of fresh fruit salad
- Dried fruit and yoghurt
- Making our own protein bars and kombucha
Volunteers arrive around 11.30am and enjoy lunch then assist with the serving of students and staff.
Midday lunch service begins and lasts until 1.45pm, during which time we serve up to 110 people in a 20 minute session. We then clean up the kitchen and café in preparation for the next day. During our clean up time we wash about 700 plates and 500 cups. Without the help of the volunteers our day would be much harder.
