It has been an intense, heart wrenching few weeks for me. Since making my decision to resign from CCSC I have been inundated with so many kind words and good wishes. It is fabulous to leave a place of employment with the knowledge that people have honestly appreciated what you have contributed, and that you will genuinely be missed; it’s humbling and evokes all manner of deep emotions.
I feel proud and privileged to have been one of the founding teachers at this fantastic college. What is happening here is unique; it’s cutting-edge education and the sports program is second to none. Working at CCSC is a group of highly skilled individuals who are dedicated to their tasks, whether it be in the classroom or on the sporting field/tennis court. For me, these colleagues have, over time, become my friends. It has been a pleasure working beside my ‘friends’, with students who are keen, able and willing to put real effort into their striving.
One question that has been asked of me many times in recent days is: “If you like it here so much, then why are you leaving?” Life is such a learning experience and what we don’t complete to the best of our ability will come back to us in another form at a later time. At CCSC we are constantly reminding our students that results are linked to effort, and that we must all strive to do our best all of the time. In my personal biography there is some unfinished business – a ‘blip’ that needs addressing, and I have been given the opportunity to do just that. At the tender age of 66, I have the chance of balancing out a piece of my karma – and this I must do.
As some of you know, I have taken on many roles in colleges over the years; apart from classroom teaching, I have filled many administration roles, but I have to say that I am happiest in the classroom. My new task is to guide, support and hopefully do a good job of educating a group of young children over the next five years. On the one hand I am leaving CCSC with a heavy heart, and on the other I am entering into a new phase of my life with real excitement as I embark on what will possibly be my last teaching assignment before I retire.
I wish to pay sincere tribute to everyone at CCSC; as I have already remarked – it is a truly fabulous team! In particular I wish to thank and acknowledge Paul and Julie; their belief that this incredible idea could blossom into the fabulous sporting and learning institution that it has already become in such a short time, is amazing. I wish to publicly thank them from the bottom of my heart for what they have achieved for the students, their families, the staff and for me.
Thank you CCSC – I WILL miss you.
Signing off with the warmest of wishes.
Merry Christmas everyone!
With love from,
Rodney
