As Year 11 and 12 students you have started your college work cycle that will lead you to the HSC . Motivation and steady work will play an important part in how successful your endeavours will be.
Steady revision work is essential in the senior college. Revision means that you revisit the theories and knowledge learned in the classroom with a chance of locking vocabulary and concepts into your mind. Most information is forgotten in a few days unless repeated and reinforced regularly. This revision in turn creates a successful environment and engenders a positive feeling about learning. If you feel successful you will participate more readily and feel confident about yourself and what you learn.
Motivation is basically the reason for wanting to study for the HSC. Many students find motivating themselves over the long- term difficult, especially because they are not sure of what they want to do in the future and how the HSC is going to benefit their lives. The luckiest students are the ones with a clearly defined goal for the future as they can always focus on their dream outcome when they feel a little lost.
Motivation and steady work can be tricky concepts to implement. Lack of motivation and erratic revision patterns (or no revision at all) can be overcome by implementing a routine not dissimilar to training. Revision work has to be done every day even though, sometimes, you may not feel like it. As football performance benefits from rigorous training, so reaching one’s academic best stems from a steady study routine.
Now is the time to set in place a routine that will help you to work profitably for the rest of your senior college. See your teacher for some help and advice on how to do so.
