International Challenge Cup
The International Challenge Cup is now a regular feature on our annual calendar and it provides a week of fun, friendship and cultural activities through football.
The ICC originated in 2014 when the All-Star Football Academy from New Zealand visited IFS. They attended IFS training sessions each day and took part in friendly games every afternoon against some of our local Central Coast club teams. The week culminated in a tournament where, along with the NZ teams, many local Under 9 and Under 10 teams competed for the International Challenge Cup.
The 2015 International Challenge Cup was postponed from April this year when the New Zealand team arrived in Australia only to be greeted by a ‘once in a 100-year’ storm that saw IFS, and many local colleges in the area, close their doors for five to seven days.
Now taking place on NZ shores in December, our week will start with a haka greeting performed by a local primary college and will then involve training games, practice matches, beach and street soccer sessions and an athletics carnival, before contesting the International Challenge Cup on the final day of the tour.
IFS are the current Under 10 International Challenge Cup Champions and will be out to defend this most coveted of titles in December. The Under 9’s title belongs to the New Zealanders but our IFS team will be fiercely vying for this accolade.
We look forward to bringing you our post-trip report !
