As of this term the Stage 4 classroom has become my office and working space, particularly in the afternoon when I am not coaching. This has been an interesting transition for me, but has allowed me to gain a new insight into the groups I am coaching and their application in the classroom. That being said, I want to share some thoughts on the importance of both training and academics for students at IFS/ITS.
Most, if not all of my squad come to sessions eager to train and give it everything they’ve got. Sessions mostly run without dramas and everybody presenting as willing participants. The majority of the time everyone is focused on the varied tasks they are required to complete, with little to no distraction. I hold high expectations of my squad, expectations that I assume transcend into the classroom and even into their daily routine.
My expectation of my squads is that they always give their all in everything they may do. This means applying themselves to all aspects of IFS/ITS, whether that is the football program or the academic program. Both aspects are equally important and impact greatly on each other. Applying themselves in training does not substitute for a lack of application within the classroom. No amount of hard work in training makes up for lost time or incomplete work in the classroom. Application to collegeing is essential to make it as a footballer and discipline is required in both areas if you are to ever prove yourself worthy as a professional footballer.
