A few weeks ago we held a large scale basketball trial, with over one hundred students competing for just sixty team spots. The natural competitiveness and sporting flair of our student group was evident.
The successful players met at IFS campus on a cold and foggy morning to embark on their journey down to the ‘Bankstown Bruins’ territory to pit their wits against nine other independent colleges. Our students never cease to amaze me at these events and once again all participants behaved impeccably throughout the tournament and wore the IFS badge with pride. Transferring some of their futsal and tennis court footwork skills gave us the upper hand over many of our rivals and the unity to work together towards one common goal enabled three of our teams to successfully make it through to the semi-final stage.
It was a pleasure to stand back and observe our students fight for every ‘possession’, support each other in attack, pick each other up and encourage each other no matter the end result and do it all with a smile on their faces.
The next CDSSA sports gala day is the Football tournament hosted by IFS on the 17th June. This will be followed by the Athletics carnival in term three at the Crest Stadium on the 13th August.
Here are some pictures from the day at Condell Park:
