When I was younger one of my mentors once said to me, “listen and you will learn”. This has stuck with me throughout my career. I will always take the time to listen and respect the ideas and opinions of those more qualified or experienced than I am. As a child or teenager it is often difficult to accept the fact that your teachers and parents are well informed and actually know what they are talking about, however listening to and learning from them will enable you to be the best you can be and achieve your goals.
It’s important to find a mentor, someone you respect and look up to, who can guide you through your journey toward becoming successful. A mentor doesn’t necessarily need to be someone significantly older than you or someone who you are close to. They are someone whose opinion you respect, someone you are willing to listen to and learn from. Your mentor will provide insights into your struggles and encourage you through overcoming weakness.
Ultimately, the desire to be the best you can be must come from within. You must decide that you want to be best you can be and be willing to do whatever it takes to be successful.
