Back in Term 1 our students in Stage 5 navigated their learning within the focus topic: ‘Football is for Girls’. This statement ran true today as the senior girls took their place within the NSW Central Coast Futsal Open Girls competition against other Central Coast girls’ teams at the Narara Valley Sports Centre.
The atmosphere was charged to say the least – both on the pitch and off – with several IFS teams whipping up a futsal frenzy. The games were 20 minutes; they were short, sharp and full of action. With many IFS teams in the competition there was barely a time when IFS were not represented on a court. It was awesome to watch.
Overall the girls played superbly. After an intense semi-final against our neighbours, the Kariong Wolves, our girls went into the grand final against St Joeys. Down 1-0 early in the game did not deter the girls spirit or commitment and the experienced play from the team resulted in our 2-1 win.
At the end of the competition, the IFS Senior Boys took out top place, with the IFS Girls Open team coming top in their comp. Wow, what an achievement. Having time to reflect on the day’s events, I must reiterate the focus I previously spoke of – ‘Football is for Girls’. This is the IFS reality, football is absolutely for girls. High 5 to the girls…and of course to the boys too…
