Senior players are those players in the squad that lead the more inexperienced or junior players in how they conduct themselves on and off the field on the path to becoming good professionals. It is coveted position in a team, and one that is earned rather than awarded.
To become a senior player, you need to take responsibility for your teammates, give advice and encouragement when appropriate, and stand up and look out for them as required. Being respectful, accountable and professional does not come easy. Those attributes are very important for a successful life in the game and beyond.
I saw those attributes beginning to be displayed by our senior students this week when Bamyan, our train supervisor on the Hornsby-Gosford train run to-from college was unable to make the journey from Hornsby on Thursday morning as his partner went in labour. The Senior boys supervised, advised and lead our younger students in to college on the train from Hornsby until they met me at Woy Woy – they took it in their stride and everyone felt safe.
I’d particularly like to thank Lachlan Rose who had the job of ‘sticking his head out’ as we arrived at each platform in order to gather our students on the way into college.
Thank you boys – good work.
PS. Bam is now the proud father of little Xavien Bamyan Blanc…..
