One of my favourite quotes is
‘Your current boundries were once unknown frontiers’.
It’s my favourite because it makes me feel like I have accomplished something. For me it signifies strength, courage, ambition, determination and motivation.
It is sometimes so easy to just work within our current boundary. They are safe and secure and we don’t have to put in much effort to stay there. However, it is not always self fulfilling to remain in a place that does not challenge the body or mind.
Term 1 at IFS has begun and with it has brought a buzz of excitiement for staff and for students new and old. So many challenges and opportunities have arisen already for everyone.
Some of the most recent challenges have been for students to move from the comforts of their old colleges or classes to begin a new year with us. For some students this is a huge change and brings with it lots of concerns and worry. Easy to say ‘no’ I cant do it.
I witnessed some amazing efforts at stage 4 camp last week. With so many students facing their fears on the giant swing or high ropes. At first, some only ventured to low height until their next level of comfort was found and they were able to push past their current boundry and arrive at a new one.
The smile on their face or cheer from their peers making it all the more worthwhile.
The team work and support I saw grow throughout the camp was gratifying for everyone. Each student working through their own battle of their mind depending on their current boundry.
I wonder how many will look back and realise that they are no longer in the place they were 2 weeks ago and that they have found a niche in their new boundry that once seemed so out of reach.
I am certain that throughout this next year at IFS all students will go through another couple of unknown frontiers and I am so proud and happy to assist in any way I can.
