I am very excited by the news that the college is going to have a dedicated science laboratory ready for first term next year. This means that we will be able to offer a wider range of activities and experiences to our science students. The activities carried out so far, outdoors and in the classroom, demanded more teacher input and scaffolding than would normally be necessary. Being more independent and adventurous in their practical work will allow our students to become more self-confident and put them in charge of their learning. Laboratories bring science to life, increasing the student’s participation and understanding of the subject.
The students in stage 5, this year, have produced some fantastic work in their independent research project and I am already anticipating what they can do with additional equipment and materials.
I look forward to posting pictures of the new laboratory and student’s work in a blog next year!
