We have heard from the coaches about the importance of a growth mindset attitude when it comes to sport, but what about the importance of developing a growth mindset for the classroom? Project based learning supports the development of growth mindset and compliments the training development program your child participates in. So how is it applied in the classroom? There are three main ways teachers encourage a growth mindset in the classroom:
1. Students are encouraged to be critical of their work. They must act upon feedback by responding to it and improving their work. This also allows students to share difficulties they are experiencing with particular tasks. Sharing the problems they are having encourages a discussion based around strategy.
2. Students are constantly questioned on the effort they put into their work. In particular, they are repeatedly asked, “How can you make it even better?”
3. Students are constantly given challenging tasks that cannot be googled. By allowing for mistakes, students can develop a better understanding and learn from it. When a student finds a task too easy, they are encouraged to ask why something is too easy, rather than just accept it.
These are just some of the ways our teachers are complimenting the work of our coaches in developing our students to have a growth mindset.
