Here’s a blog a little different from my usual football rant 🙂
Everyone’s talking about the Ice Bucket Challenge which is all over Facebook at the moment, raising awareness for Motor Neurones disease. It’s a horrible disease and well worth the awareness and it’s raised over $800k, which is awesome.
I was nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge twice in the same 24 hours, which I’m sure deserves an award in itself 🙂 I also wanted to take the opportunity to bring awareness to something that’s close to my heart – foster care for Aussie kids.
This isn’t something for just the select few to get involved in. If you’re a decent person with a spare bedroom please consider giving a safe home to a young child who needs a second chance in life. We are in crisis, with over 29,000 kids in care in this country. These kids need a safe, loving place to call home.
There’s no illusion that parenting these kids is easy. It’s a hard job and unfortunately there’s not enough funding to provide people with what they need to give these kids a fighting chance to deal with the trauma in their little lives. Imagine being a little kid again and, without any clue, being taken away from your family and told you can’t go back. Heartbreaking. Life shattering. These kids need a safe place to be able to process their heartbreak, rejection, confusion and anger.
But with a push of awareness and bringing the government to account on what really matters, which is helping young kids have a good life in Australia, we need good people and good homes and the money to help raise these kids in the manner they deserve. Hope, happiness and to enjoy being a kid again.
Thanks for listening 🙂
