This term stage 4 has been learning about urban art and the difference between ‘legal street art’ and graffiti. Students have had the opportunity to study the characters, alphabet and fonts of graffiti and applied these concepts and the ‘elements of art’ to create their own ‘name tag’ and ‘personal logo’.
We have gained knowledge and understanding of the history of graffiti and learned how the popularity of urban art developed from hip hop music. Students’ critical case study involved them investigating urban artist, Banksy, and using their knowledge of various frames in visual arts to construct meaning and value in the studied artwork Wall and Piece.
Their final project involved working collaboratively in groups to design and create their own miniature urban art mural on the wall in the creative arts/language room.
I must say I am super impressed and proud of the class’s effort and their dedication in developing personal meaning through their artworks.
Below are pictures of the students’ mural, I hope you are as proud of them as I am!
