For those of you who have been hiding under a rock, IFS students get their fair share of futsal. Not only do they have a futsal session each and every week of the year, but also, since May, we have entered no less than four futsal tournaments including – Central Coast Futsal Championships, Hunter Futsal Championships, Dural Futsal Tournament and most recently the State Futsal Championships in Penrith. Apart from this, we also run a local futsal competition called the IFS Futsal Club at CCYC, Niagara Park, but the fun doesn’t just stop there.
The IFS Futsal Club is the first Central Coast futsal club to ever play in the Football NSW Futsal State League which kicks off in October this year. The competition includes 13 other futsal clubs and is played from October to December and then from the end of January and into February.
Our male teams, U/12’s through to Open Mens, have been selected from our current student body of IFS students. Now we are actively working on selections for our female representative teams, U/13’s through to Open Womens, with trials this Saturday 16 August from 2-4pm at CCYC. Just when you think you have maxed out on futsal, IFS will also be entering teams in the FNSW Futsal State Championships held on 4 and 5 October.
I encourage any student or parent who have never seen or played a game of futsal to head down to CCYC on a Friday between 5-7pm to watch our IFS futsal club competition in action. With approx 140 players (22 teams), playing two games of futsal over four courts within two hours, it is extremely exciting and not for the faint hearted.
On a final note, a special mention must go out to PSG and Auspain, the two heavyweights in the U/16 competition. Last Friday saw these two teams do battle for the first time this term and the game lived up to all expectations. While Auspain took the honours this time, PSG can look forward to two more clashes before finals night.
