This term, Stage 4 students are embarking on a journey with Sally and I to Ancient Greece. Throughout the next six weeks they will be completing an integrated project gaining skills and knowledge in English, History, PDHPE and Geography in order to be able to answer the Driving Question, “Who deserves the Olive Wreath?”
Students will be researching and exploring a variety of aspects and legacies of Ancient Greek culture including Greek mythology, Ancient Greek society, the Ancient Olympics and Olympia as a world heritage site. After they have researched these areas and demonstrated their understanding through completing a number of set tasks, they will be required to share their knowledge in two forms, the first of these being a speech and the second being a group information stall.
Students will individually compose a speech justifying their choice of who they believe is deserving of the olive wreath. They may choose a person, a Greek God or even an important piece of Greek architecture. Using their knowledge they must persuade the audience as to why their chosen Greek legacy is deserving of this prestigious prize. As a group, students will then need to combine their knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Ancient Greece to create information stalls to educate and inform our Stage 2 students.
Stage 4 students have been provided with group folders from which they can collate and present their work throughout the project. In this instance, if students are absent could parents please call or email either Sally or myself so we can email the student the work they need to be catching up on while away.
Speaking for both Sally and myself, we are very exciting about this project. It has been weeks in the making and we hope that the students will be as excited about it as we are.
