What else could I write about this week other than the World Cup? The pinnacle of our sport. Aside from some painful kick off times, I’ve been soaking up every minute.
As a development coach, it’s such an educational experience to watch the different countries play, witness the different playing styles and compare philosophies on the world stage.
As you should know by now, I don’t care for the scoreline but rather how a team dominates the game strategically and technically, for that is what a long-term approach is concerned about. Developing players who can execute a game plan on a consistent basis, equipped with the necessary tools to adapt it to opponents, conditions and other externals.
As an Australian development coach, it is a fantastic opportunity to see the Socceroos competing in a group with two of the world leaders in football development. We must strive to leave our traditional direct style behind and keep forging forward, under the greatest of pressure, towards the goal of becoming a possession-based football nation. Our future depends on it!
