Like many parents during the holidays, I was asked by my children (bugged until I said YES) to take them to see The LEGO Movie. This, of course, meant a full day of listening to the now famous theme song Everything is Awesome. While any song sung repetitively for a few hours will drive you a little crazy, there is something inspiring about saying, singing and even just hearing the word ‘awesome’. Well, lets face facts, in whatever context you are talking, it obviously doesn’t get much better.
I am lucky enough, every day, to coach kids who think everything IS awesome. That pure pre too-cool-for-college enthusiasm that glows in their eyes when they are around their mates is what makes coaching that much more enjoyable. I think the person who made up the saying “never take the boy out of the man” actually meant to say “never lose the enthusiasm of an eight year old”, because it radiates and inspires.
While realising everything isn’t always going to be awesome, the following clips may give us the spring in our step to make our own ‘adult’ day a little more AWESOME.
