We’ve had a lot of action in the café over the past couple of weeks.
The main project has been improving security of the inside and outside of the café. We now have high definition cameras surrounding the entire café, which records 24/7 as well as sending a live view picture to many of the staff phones and ipads. The café and toilets are now well lit with new safety lights, so there are no dark corners to hide in. New security screens have been placed over the windows in the wash room and the kitchen. A roller door has also been installed inside the café to make the area two separate rooms, main eating hall and the kitchen wash room. A new security company is also doing regular checks through the night.
All the above should deter any unwanted visitors in and around our grounds throughout the night.
I have had a couple of requests regarding the lunch time meals, asking if I could inform the IFS community of the weekly menu in advance. Some time ago this happened and we found it caused more dramas than it did any good. It led to students making up their mind that they didn’t like a meal before the café had even made it. The other issue is that due to supplier specials, meals can change daily. Please remember that on top of the daily meal option, the buffet always has bread, rice and corn crackers, spreads, salads, individual salad items, fruit salad, whole fruit, Greek yoghurt and sometimes cereal or dried fruit. SOMETHING FOR EVERONE.
INGREDIENT IN THE SPOT LIGHT: Avocados
Avocados are packed with almost 20 health boosting nutrients including twice the potassium found in bananas. Avocados contain up to 30g of fat per fruit, primarily monosaturated fat which actually has a positive effect on cholesterol levels, which can lower your risk of heart disease. Eating avocados will help protect your body from heart disease, cancer, plus degenerative eye and brain disease.
Cheers,
Chef Ash and Jodi
Even if you don’t post the weekly menu in advance it would be good to have a daily or weekly idea of what was on the menu. I discuss with my son everyday what was for lunch and did he eat it or resort to a sandwich. It would good to know what he enjoys eating at the Cafe and what he avoiding, which enables me to start introducing these recipes in main meals at home. Unfortunately his descriptions of what they ate and what what it actually was can vary greatly so by having an idea of what what on offer I can not only try out variations but also discuss the healthy benefits of eating it.
Ps. Glad to see that extra security has been installed in the Cafe.
A bit worrying that there were dark corners to hide in before.
