Towards the end of last year I spoke about what to use to refill your body when playing football. As we have many new players and parents, and having observed a number of games and the half-time drinks parents are providing, I find it is important to communicate this information again.
The human body is made of water. When we are exercising, we lose water, therefore we need to replace this water. When a car runs out of petrol we replace it with petrol, I have never seen someone putting Powerade in his tank!
You may think that sports drinks are useful because of their claims about minerals and nutrients? I can assure you, the only content provided by sports drinks and juices is the all-time devil – sugar.
The optimal way to prepare your child for second half is to provide water and pieces of fruit, such as banana.
Thanks for reading.
Your coach, Andre
Thank you Andre for this information, , I am totally opposed to giving my son these type of drinks but was a bit lost when we played acouple of weeks ago at newcastle , as to what to give him to keep up his energy and fluids. For the first time ever grab one of these drinks, justifying my actions by the jargon on the bottle . Will grab the banana and water next time. Love these helpful healthy tips.
Hydration begins the night before a game.
A study In Europe a few years back showed 75-80% of professional footballers are already slightly dehydrated before the game starts.
