Is this how I feel?
Learning how to manage time can be very difficult and challenging for students, football players, coaches and mums and dads. How do I manage my time with so many activities I am involved in – college tasks, homework, club football, travel and social interacting?
As the say goes, “Failing to prepare, then be prepared to fail”. Being a professional footballer can be very rewarding and exciting, filled with passion, fame, money and loving life and family however as a young footballer there may be many difficult obstacles to overcome? Can you think of any?
Managing my daily and weekly timetable and routine is the key. I must ask myself several basic questions. My last blog was based on the 5W’s. What, Where and Why can time management affect my performance and studies? for example,
Please take the time to read on and work out the message within the message:
First and most importantly, do I complete my homework and studies on time? Where are my books? When do I prepare my training kit? The night before or the morning of training or match day? Do I feel like training today? I forgot to pack my training kit! I didn’t have time for this or that! I didn’t have time to do my homework! I forgot my book! I forgot my ball! I forgot my goalkeeping gloves! I forgot or lost my boots/books/foam roller! Not sure about my task to complete! I am too tired! I am injured! I am sick! My mum or dad forgot! I do not want to shower after training! My friend doesn’t so I don’t? I can but I don’t have time! I don’t have time to get my stuff, make my room, clean up after myself!!! I don’t have time to!!!
Well! can you see the pattern? What do you feel the message may be highlighting? Are these excuses or am I badly managing my time? Do I know how to manage my time or should I get help and learn how to? If so, what changes must I make immediately to manage my time more efficiently and more beneficial? When will I make those changes in order to be better prepared? How will I reach my dream of becoming a professional footballer? What will be a major factor in achieving my dream? Should I allow others to manage my time? Do I depend on others to organise my time?
It is easy to find excuses rather than solutions, however should I decide to reflect and assess my current time management routine and whether it is working, then I must accept advice, criticism, change and adopt a process to teach myself how to manage my time efficiently. I must learn how to give myself the best possible opportunity and chance of succeeding!
Remember that:
The Choice is MINE/Yours!
Failing to Prepare, be Prepared to Fail
Will this help?
My plan of action!
I must make better use of my time every day! I must be prepared to sacrifice good for excellent as often as possible! I must learn to micro-manage my time and focus on my tasks and goals in life! I must be disciplined in time managing my tasks & objectives! I must not make excuses! I must not be fully dependent on others! I must do my best to make good choices in order to fulfil my dreams to play pro-football! I must manage my time, plan and be prepared! I must focus and work hard to become successful whether I am a professional player or embarking on any job or profession I choose to! I must learn to ask for help when needed!I must learn to embrace feedback and work closely with others! I must source and find ways and attempt to manage my time more efficiently. I need to learn to plan! Can Mum and Dad help? Maybe my teachers and coaches are willing to help?
I will Plan to Plan
I hope this message helps you manage your time more efficiently.
The choice is yours.
Yours in football,
Coach Danny

Very true. I find that the more organised I am the easier it is to get things done. I will take a lot of this advice and use it. Mum is very organized (oh man she was right again!!!) So she has given me some tips. Number one t is I always pack my kit the night before.

Well Danny every night mum will constantly tell me to pack my bag I say ” I will I will ” I go and pack it but I don’t even try because I’m rushing to play Xbox.
