I had the privilege of participating in the year 7 and 8 college camp at Point Wolstoncroft, Lake Macquarie. Rebecca, Andrew and I shared the group amongst three lodges and I kept watch over 21 students in one lodge named Grevillea. It was challenging getting the guys ready for their daily activities and meals and ensuring a nightly routine and I thought we did pretty well.
Getting into good habits away from home isn’t easy. I was happy to have kept my room in a reasonable state but, as we all know, teenagers need a lot of reminding, especially when they get together to form a cone of silence. Overall there weren’t many complaints and I’m sure the guys will forgive me for interrupting their cone of silence a few times!
My Red Team, which took part in rope climbing, the giant swing, sailing, archery, wombat holes and kayaking, was fantastic! It was exciting to watch their team effort and general leadership qualities on display. In particular, the boys took on the challenge of sailing with a great deal of maturity. Our final day was a sailing regatta pulling together all the skills learned during the previous sessions. It was won by the Green Team but the Red Team showed determination, unity, leadership and great sportsmanship in defeat while applying themselves to the best of their newly learned ability.
I was so proud to get to know everyone in years 7 and 8 during this week. I’m sure the kids will take away many unforgettable memories spent with friends, teachers and instructors.
Well done IFS!

it sounds like you all had a great time having fun building a wonderful (trusting) friendship. We were thinking of you all and feeling sad that I (John) couldn’t experience my first camp with my IFS friends and teachers.
See you on Monday.

As the Centre Manager of Point Wolstoncroft Centre I would like to take this opportunity to thank Will Piriz for his comments and say what a pleasure it was to host the Central Coast Sports College students and staff during their camp. The students were active, engaging and enthusiastic during all activities, ably cared for by Rebecca, Andrew and Will. It was terrific seeing teachers being so keen to be involved in the activities. We look forward to welcoming the IFS back to Point Wolstoncroft in the future.
