An important part of PBL is creating a ‘need to know list’. The need to know list is a list of questions students need to answer in order to complete a set task or answer a particular question. The need to know list is produced before any task is attempted and is one of the very first things that should be done when a project is commenced. The need to know list promotes in-depth inquiry and leads students to think about what they already know, what they don’t know and what they need to know before jumping in and completing a task incorrectly. For a further explanation follow the link:
This leads me to share some information that may be on your need to know list in regards to your child and what is happening at IFS in the classroom at the moment.
Stage 4
– Stage 4 students go on camp Monday 24 February – all camp forms need to be returned by this Friday. Please email or call me with any questions or concerns.
– We are currently working on a project researching coastal lifestyles. The students have been doing some Viking Maths and sculpting mythical Viking creatures (and some are looking really good).
– Students are due to start an in-depth historical inquiry on Vikings next week and I look forward to seeing what they produce.
Stage 5
– Stage 5 students have just started a new project which will answer the driving question “Are all men created equal?” This is a study on the inequalities in society in regards to the treatment of migrants, Indigenous Australians and refugees.
Stage 6
– In English, stage 6 students are in the process of finishing up their study of The King’s Speech, learning about the journey of King George VI and his struggle with a speech impediment. Their first assessment has been submitted and overall I was impressed with what was produced.
I hope this answers some of your need to knows.
Please feel free to share your need to know list and I will do my best to answer these questions in my fortnightly blogs.
