I would like welcome back all returning students and teachers from last year and a warm welcome to the new students and teachers starting this year. As others have mentioned, jumping from around 125 people last year to 250 this year – it’s a massive increase and shows that IFS is clearly on the right path.
Firstly some information regarding the café:
Ø The café is open for morning tea daily from 10.25am
Ø Food is available for $3.00
Ø Beverages are $1.00
Ø Coffees are available for $3.00 but not for students (even though some have tried)
Ø Lunch is provided daily – prepared onsite using fresh ingredients.
I have a new full time assistant. Jodi has 20 years experience in hospitality on the Coast and Hunter Valley, in numerous positions including front of house supervisor and cook. Next time you see her please make her feel welcome and say hello.
I would like to request that parents encourage their children to at least try the meals we serve each day. Looks can be deceiving when it comes to food. Trust me, I’ve heard a lot of excuses in my time, I know not everyone will like our cooking everyday, but it won’t hurt them to try.
The menu each week changes, but at a glance we make pasta dishes, stir frys, wet dishes (beef stroganoff, sweet and sour), burgers (chicken breast, steak sandwiches) and, not everyone’s favourite, vegetarian meals.
Thank you to all the volunteers who returned from last year and those new ones who have come on board – this year would be very difficult without your help. I’m preparing a volunteer roster so if you would like to assist, or just pop in and say hello, by all means do so.
Finally, I would like to mention that Aldi Gosford is a sponsor of the café because they believe in a healthy community and promoting fresh produce to everyone, so please support the ones that support us.
INGREDIENT IN THE SPOTLIGHT: ARTICHOKES
Artichokes contain an abundance of antioxidants in the form of phytonutrients (naturally occurring chemicals found in fruit and vegetables) and minerals – these have a strong positive effect on the liver which assists in reducing cholesterol levels. Artichokes also stimulate the production of bile, which helps with both the digestion of fats and the absorption of vitamins from our food. Artichokes are loaded with magnesium which is essential for the body and assists in generating energy. If that’s not enough, have a look at how much Andre eats!!! WoW.
Cheers for now,
Chef Ash & Jodi

Thanks for the details on the lunch being provided! I have been encouraging my son to try all your meals that are being prepared for him! Some he has loved and are better than my meals ! ;-). Others not so! But he tells me he tries them! Can I suggest that maybe we could be emailed or be able to view a menu planner for each week so we can talk about what’s coming onto the plate before they get it, to help encourage the “trying” and also may help them enjoy and eat more!!
